Description
This exquisite antique pitcher is a stunning example of early 20th-century Nippon porcelain, showcasing the high level of artistry that has made these pieces highly sought after by collectors. Standing approximately 10 inches tall with a 7-inch width (including the handle), the pitcher features a refined cream-colored body adorned with vibrant, hand-painted clusters of pink and white wild roses. The floral motifs are framed by elaborate heavy gold moriage and gilded scrollwork, which provides a rich, tactile contrast to the smooth porcelain surface.
Based on the "Hand Painted NIPPON" backstamp featuring a green wreath encircling the letter "K," this piece can be dated to the early 1900s, specifically between 1906 and 1921. This particular mark is associated with the Komasaka factory, which produced high-quality wares for export to the Western market during the golden age of Nippon porcelain. Pieces from this era are prized for their intricate "beading" and opulent use of 24K gold accents, which remain remarkably bright on this well-preserved specimen.
The pitcher’s design is further elevated by a striking emerald green border along the scalloped rim and base, which perfectly complements the lush green leaves of the floral arrangement. The elegantly curved handle is fully gilded, adding a final touch of luxury to the silhouette. Whether displayed as a centerpiece or added to a fine china collection, this authentic Nippon pitcher serves as a beautiful historical link to the masterful craftsmanship of Japanese export porcelain from over a century ago.
