The Akai CR-81D is a legendary 8-track stereo cartridge recorder that defined home recording luxury in the 1970s, and this example powers up with those gorgeous illuminated VU meters glowing like a Times Square marquee. The front panel delivers the full feature set including a 4-program selector with lit indicators, REC, PLAY, F.FWD, and STOP transport controls, a Continuous Play button, front-mounted headphone jack, and independent Left and Right volume knobs with a dedicated REC level indicator. The rear panel is loaded for bear with stereo mic inputs, stereo line inputs, stereo line outputs, a multi-pin DIN remote connector, a 50/60Hz frequency selector switch, and a multi-voltage selector fuse assembly covering 100-240V at 60W, making this a true world-ready machine. The walnut-grain side panels are intact and presentable, the chassis shows honest vintage patina, and the right-side volume knob cap is missing its top but the pot itself functions, making this a solid candidate for the collector or the retro audio enthusiast ready to spin some Foghat on tape.
