Description

This is the 1948 Little Golden Book edition of Little Black Sambo, illustrated by the legendary Gustaf Tenggren and published by Simon and Schuster in partnership with Artists and Writers Guild, Inc. The cover art features the iconic crouching tiger and the small dark-skinned child rendered in Tenggren's distinctive warm, storybook style, and the spine retains its classic decorative silver binding. Interior pages are bright and vivid with full-color illustrations, including the memorable tiger-chase sequence and the famous melted butter scene, with text intact and legible throughout. Condition shows honest age with cover wear, some creasing, and spine fatigue consistent with a well-loved 75-plus-year-old children's book, making this a genuinely scarce survivor for collectors of vintage Golden Books, banned and controversial literature, or mid-century American children's publishing history.
