This antique cast iron fruit and cider press is attributed to the Enterprise Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, one of the premier makers of farm, kitchen, and food-processing equipment during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The press retains its original cast iron flywheel, geared drive assembly, pressing chamber, and elevated metal stand. Several casting and part numbers are visible throughout the machine, including 3110E, 3099E, 3109E, 2427E, and 2422E, all consistent with Enterprise Manufacturing production. The press features a large three-spoke flywheel and heavy geared mechanism designed for hand-powered operation.
This example is a classic single-screw style press commonly used for pressing apples, grapes, berries, and other fruits to produce juice, cider, or wine. Similar presses were also adapted for household butchering and food preparation tasks, including lard pressing and sausage stuffing with interchangeable components. The triangular three-post yoke assembly at the top is a recognizable Enterprise design intended to provide leverage and stability during operation.
The machine displays substantial cast iron construction throughout, with aged surface patina, oxidation, and wear consistent with long-term agricultural or workshop use. Its exposed gears, mechanical linkage, and utilitarian form give it strong industrial and early Americana appeal, making it suitable for restoration, decorative display, museum-style collections, or repurposed commercial décor.
As pictured on the stand, the press measures approximately 25 x 25 x 41 inches and weighs over 75 pounds. An impressive and increasingly difficult-to-find example of early American food-processing equipment with excellent visual presence and authentic period construction.
***NOTE: This piece is very Heavy and will take planning and/or multiple people to move.
