Description

This collection includes two cast iron figural coin banks inspired by classic late 19th and early 20th century American bank designs. Included is a cast iron Elephant with Howdah still bank and an Uncle Sam mechanical-style bank, both finished in hand-painted polychrome decoration. These whimsical figural banks remain popular with collectors for their folk-art appearance and association with early American toy and bank manufacturing.

The elephant bank is modeled after the well-known “Elephant with Howdah” design originally produced by the A.C. Williams Company of Ravenna, Ohio. The elephant features a raised trunk, molded harness and saddle blanket details, and a decorative howdah seat finished in gold, brown, and green accents. Due to the widespread reproduction of this form during the mid-to-late 20th century, the exact production age of this example cannot be confirmed and it is being sold as either an original or later reproduction example. It measures approximately 7 inches long and 5 inches tall.

Also included is an Uncle Sam cast iron bank standing atop a patriotic red base decorated with an American eagle motif. The figure is dressed in a blue coat and tall top hat while holding an umbrella beside a red valise marked “U.S.” Based on the casting quality, paint finish, and overall appearance, this example appears to be a later reproduction of an earlier mechanical bank design. The bank measures approximately 4 inches wide, 5 inches deep, and 11.5 inches tall.

Both pieces display classic Americana styling and retain painted surface decoration throughout. The collection offers strong decorative appeal for displays featuring cast iron banks, patriotic memorabilia, country store collectibles, or vintage-style toy reproductions. Terms and Conditions

1. All items are sold where is, as is.

2. Once payment is completed for item(s) won, the ability to schedule a pick-up time will become available. Scheduling a pick-up time is required.

3. There will be a $20 fee assessed per item not picked up at that time that will be collected prior to bidding again at our auctions. Unlike retail, we do not have the option to store your item. If the item is larger than a standard suitcase (22" x 14" x 10"), we will charge $50 to the card on file per item to move the item.

4. Please plan accordingly as items not picked up are considered "abandoned". Do not bid if you cant pick up this day.

5. You are responsible for ensuring you collect all items at pickup.

6. Legacy uses "Popcorn" or "Extended" bidding. This means if a bid comes in at the last second, it is extended 3 minutes. This is like a live auctioneer saying, "going once" to ensure all bids are exhausted prior to closing.

7. We charge a 12% flat buyers premium on all items.

8. We charge KY State Tax with the exception of vehicles which is collected at the DMV.

9. You must bring help to pickup any items. We can recommend movers upon request. Also, please bring tools for items that require disassembly.
