Description
This grouping consists of three utilitarian ceramic bowls used historically for food preparation and serving. The two outer bowls are stoneware mixing bowls with wide, pronounced rims, commonly referred to as shoulder bowls. The center piece is a footed bowl with a flared profile, distinct in form from the mixing bowls and intended for table or salad service. Together, the set reflects practical kitchen wares commonly found in late 19th- to early 20th-century households.
The flanking bowls appear to be stoneware crock bowls made for heavy kitchen use such as mixing dough or holding liquids. Their form and glaze are consistent with American utilitarian pottery of the period, produced by multiple manufacturers. The center bowl appears to be ironstone, characterized by a denser ceramic body and a more refined silhouette. Its surface shows the softly worn appearance often associated with early ironstone used for serving rather than preparation. No definitive maker marks are confirmed without inspection.
The stoneware bowls typically measure within a range of approximately 10 to 12.75 inches in diameter and 4 to 5 inches in height; the footed ironstone bowl is proportionally larger and elevated on a low base. All three bowls show surface wear consistent with age and long-term use, including glaze wear and patina. No cracks or structural damage are assumed without close inspection. The set presents cohesively as a functional and decorative grouping of antique-style kitchen ceramics.
