Butin, Ingenieur E.C.P., Paris -- and these stunning nickel-plated carriage lamps are proof that Monsieur Butin did not disappoint. Each lamp features a beautifully hand-etched globe glass shade bearing the initials EST, repeated again on the collar, the cylindrical arm, and the wall bracket, suggesting these were custom-commissioned pieces for a very particular owner who wanted the world to know whose carriage was rolling by. The clever bracket-mount system uses keyhole slots for easy wall installation, and the articulating arm design allowed the lamp to be angled outward from the carriage body -- a sophisticated engineering touch worthy of an Ecole Centrale graduate. Condition shows honest age-appropriate patina and surface oxidation on the nickel plating, with both globes intact and original, making this matched pair a genuinely rare survivor from the golden age of horse-drawn elegance.
