Description

First up is a genuine Rolls Razor Ltd. (1927) chrome safety razor in its original fitted tin case, engraved with a Greek key pattern on the lid and complete with the original strop and honing mechanism resting on a red felt interior. The back of the lid bears the circular patent medallion reading 'Rolls Razor Ltd. (1927), Patented in England and Abroad, English Patent Numbers 108553, 184514, 184515, 184754, 224578, 2422718, 1427717, and Pending' -- a beautiful piece of British grooming history that belonged on every gentleman's vanity. Next are two globe-form table lighters with gold-tone brass lighter mechanisms. The larger globe features a stunning dark teal-to-olive gradient art glass body with an iridescent finish, while the smaller companion globe is adorned with a rich amber-and-orange lacquerware or cloisonne-style scenic decoration depicting deer in a forest. Both lighters have hinged brass tops with flint-wheel ignition mechanisms, the hallmark of a well-appointed mid-century smoking room. Rounding out the lot is a magnificent Murano-style art glass ashtray in deep espresso brown with lavish gold aventurine flecking throughout, hand-blown into a generous bowl form with three cigarette rests along the organic ruffled rim. The base retains a partial original foil or paper label in teal and yellow, strongly suggesting Italian art glass origin. The interior sparkles with copper and gold inclusions that catch the light beautifully -- this one is as much sculpture as it is ashtray.
