This double-sided painted metal advertising sign promotes Clabber Girl Baking Powder and features the brand’s well-known yellow field with bold red and black lettering. The sign is constructed of tin and measures approximately 34 x 11 3/4 inches, a standardized horizontal format commonly used for mid-century commercial signage. Both sides display the same graphic layout intended for maximum visibility.
Signs of this type were produced for widespread national advertising campaigns and were typically installed in grocery stores, general stores, and other retail environments, as well as mounted along exterior walls, fence lines, or roadside posts. Clabber Girl’s advertising strategy from the 1930s through the 1970s relied heavily on durable metal signage to reinforce brand recognition in everyday commercial settings, particularly in food-related retail spaces.
Based on size, construction, and style, this example aligns most closely with production from the early 1950s. The sign is marked “R 2-51,” which is generally understood to indicate a production or distribution code consistent with February 1951. While Clabber Girl signs were manufactured over several decades by various sign makers, this marking supports an early-1950s date rather than later reissues, placing the sign firmly within the post-war advertising period.
