Up for auction is a wonderful piece of mid-century electronics: a vintage RCA Victor Model 3RG-64G portable transistor radio. Manufactured by the Radio Corporation of America out of their Home Instruments Division in Indianapolis, Indiana, this specific unit is factory-dated to the 21st week of 1966 (late May 1966) based on the internal manufacturing stamp "2166". Encased in a beautiful, classic brown genuine leather shell—proudly stamped on the lower back—this radio epitomizes the sleek, portable aesthetic of the 1960s. It features a stylish front faceplate crafted from a combination of brushed aluminum on top, a perforated metallic speaker grille on the bottom, and a molded plastic tuning dial accented with a metallic gold insert.
This completely battery-operated unit relies on superheterodyne circuitry and advanced-for-its-time transistor technology rather than bulky vacuum tubes, offering a tuning range of 540–1600 Kilocycles (standard AM radio). Unsnapping the two bottom buttons reveals a pristine interior layout containing the original speaker, internal printed circuit board, and a clean technical spec label detailing the serial number (RVA 006486) and battery configuration schematic. Originally designed to run on four 1.5-volt cells (such as the vintage RCA VS 334 or VS 034), it can be easily outfitted with modern D-size or C-size battery equivalents. There is also an external earphone jack located on the back of the case for private listening.
Measuring a highly compact 7 inches wide by 5 inches high, this handsome portable radio is equipped with its integrated leather carrying handle and sturdy metal brackets, making it ready for effortless display or travel. The leather casing is in excellent vintage condition with strong stitching and minimal age-related wear, while the faceplate retains its clean, bright luster. Whether you are a collector of mid-century transistor radios, a fan of classic RCA Victor memorabilia, or looking for a timeless retro prop, this 1966 gem makes a stellar addition to any collection. The radio is being sold as-is; please review the high-resolution photographs to closely evaluate the cosmetic condition and complete interior components before placing your bid.
