Step back into the golden age of mid-century home entertainment with this spectacular 1957 Magnavox "Three-Way" Combination Console. A true showcase piece of atomic-era design, this all-in-one entertainment center seamlessly merges premium electronics with high-end furniture. The cabinet features a gorgeous, high-gloss lacquered wood grain top that slides open on the right to reveal a hidden multi-speed turntable. Below, a sleek vertical "tambour" style slatted door smoothly slides across the front to conceal the television screen when it is not in use, converting the unit into an elegant sideboard. Complete with a beautiful woven metallic fabric speaker grille and a solid brass cast Magnavox Crest emblem on the front door, this console exudes authentic 1950s luxury.
This premium console was manufactured by The Magnavox Company out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a brand world-renowned in the mid-century era for its exceptional audio fidelity and furniture-grade cabinetry. Internal component verification confirms its origins; the silver metal audio amplifier chassis in the lower back houses original vacuum tubes and features electronic transformers stamped with EIA source codes 232-741 and 232-739, dating the internal components precisely to the 39th and 41st weeks of 1957. This aligns perfectly with the included, remarkably well-preserved original user manuals, one of which bears a handwritten purchase or service date of November 15, 1957. This impressive unit features a black-and-white picture tube (CRT) television with an upper control panel for fine-tuning, a "Magnificent Magnavox" High-Fidelity AM/FM radio receiver, and a Magnavox Deluxe four-speed automatic record changer (built for Magnavox by the legendary British manufacturer Collaro) capable of playing 16, 33, 45, and 78 RPM vinyl records.
This console is in beautiful aesthetic vintage condition, showing an incredibly well-preserved wood finish with minimal surface wear appropriate for its age. The back panel remains intact, offering an incredible look at the heavy-duty stamped steel chassis, copper-wound power transformer, and classic glass vacuum tubes. Because this unit is completely tube-operated and has been safely stored, it is being sold as-is; it is highly recommended that a vintage electronics hobbyist or technician inspect the capacitors before plugging it into a modern wall outlet. The original "How to Operate" manuals are included in the auction, and the cabinet measures 40 1/2 inches wide by 18 inches deep by 37 1/2 inches high.
