The Pioneer PL-A35 is a fully automatic belt-drive stereo turntable that oozes mid-century hi-fi confidence, wrapped in a gorgeous warm walnut wood plinth that would make any audiophile weak in the knees. Made in Japan by Pioneer Electronic Corp and rated at 19 watts max on AC 50/60 Hz, this unit supports both 33 and 45 RPM speeds with a satisfyingly chunky speed selector knob labeled Belt Drive right on the face. The full-automatic control panel is a thing of beauty, featuring a record-size selector dial covering 7-inch through 12-inch formats, a Repeat function, and a Start/Cut control, all topped off with that classic Pioneer orange-and-gold branding. The smoked acrylic dust cover shows age-appropriate scratches and a small crack at one rear corner, the walnut cabinet is solid and attractive, RCA output cables and ground wire are included, and the tonearm and headshell appear intact and ready for a fresh stylus to get back to work.
