This vintage maritime navigation lantern features a red Fresnel glass lens, identifying it as a port-side (left-side) ship’s light traditionally used to signal vessel orientation at sea. The lantern is constructed of solid brass and follows a classic bulkhead or corner-mount design, complete with a top carry handle. Its substantial weight and utilitarian form reflect its original functional purpose aboard a vessel.
The lantern’s design is consistent with early to mid-20th-century marine lighting and is characteristic of examples produced by established makers of the period, though no manufacturer’s mark is visible. The thick red Fresnel lens is set within a brass housing designed to protect the light while maximizing visibility. The overall form and materials align with authentic nautical hardware rather than later decorative reproductions.
The lantern measures approximately 10 to 13 inches tall, excluding the top handle. Condition is good vintage condition, showing an unpolished brass patina with surface wear and tarnish consistent with age and use. No major dents or cracks are visible, and the lens appears intact. The burner and wick mechanism have not been tested for functionality.
