Description
First up is a 1972 Bill Leftwich Kentucky Wildcats mascot poster, copyrighted and published by Holiday Productions out of Lubbock, Texas, featuring a snarling, cartoon-style wildcat rendered in bold blue, orange, and black on aged paper stock. This piece carries the artist's printed signature and copyright mark, and while it shows honest wear including soiling, creasing, and a corner tear consistent with its 50-plus years of existence, the graphic itself remains vivid and instantly recognizable as a true time-capsule relic from the early 1970s. It is the kind of poster that was tacked to a dorm room wall in 1972 and somehow survived to tell the tale, which makes it all the more collectible today.
The second vintage poster in this lot features the classic Kentucky Wildcats wildcat head in blue and white with green eyes, labeled boldly with the team name in blue block lettering. Also signed by Bill Leftwich with a copyright mark, this piece presents the more traditional mascot rendering and shares similar age-related wear with its companion piece, including yellowing, surface soiling, and edge wear, but retains strong graphic impact that pops from across a room.
The framed lithograph titled The Kentucky Wildcat, Plate I, is the crown jewel of this lot. Executed by artist Terrell Dickey, this beautifully detailed and naturalistic rendering of a bobcat perched in a tree is matted in blue and gold and housed in a dark wood frame. The real kicker is the trio of signatures on the print itself, which appear to read Cliff Hagan, Joe B.
