This collection begins with a J. Chein & Co. tin litho wind-up bunny, produced in the 1930s–1940s by the famed American tin toy manufacturer. Measuring roughly 6" long and 3" tall, this early Chein example features bright lithographed clothing graphics, character-style facial details, and a classic hopping mechanism visible on the underside. Its red, yellow, and blue palette is typical of Chein’s pre-war output, and toys from this era remain highly collectible for their bold artistry and durable, U.S.-made construction.
The second piece is a charming Line Mar Toys tin wind-up rabbit (*Ear Missing), manufactured in Japan during the 1950s–1960s. Measuring approximately 5¼" long and 4" tall, this teal, yellow, and red rabbit reflects the distinctive style of Line Mar (the Japanese subsidiary associated with Marx Toys). It features exaggerated facial expressions, a segmented body for hopping motion, and a working key wind mechanism. Line Mar’s post-war Japanese tin toys are especially valued for their whimsical graphics and mechanical movement.
Completing the trio is a colorful Mikuni tin litho wind-up bird, made in Japan between 1955–1968. About 5" long and 4" tall, this bright red and yellow bird showcases classic Mikuni styling: large animated eyes, vibrant wing details, and a rear-mounted wind-up key powering its distinctive waddling motion. The underside bears the original Mikuni “Trade Mark” stamping, confirming its mid-century Japanese manufacture.
Together, these three pieces form an excellent cross-section of mid-20th-century tin toy production, spanning an American classic and two iconic Japanese post-war makers. Their expressive lithography, mechanical charm, and manufacturer marks make them an appealing set for collectors of early character toys, wind-up mechanisms, and vintage tin lithographed figures.
