Up for auction is a wonderful piece of pre-war American toy history: an original 1930s pressed steel High-Wing Passenger Monoplane manufactured by the All Metal Products Co. of Wyandotte, Michigan. Measuring an impressive 18 inches at the wingspan and 12 inches from the nose to the tail, this substantial toy was modeled after the legendary Lockheed "Vega"—the pioneering aircraft made famous by aviation icons like Amelia Earhart and Wiley Post.
This specific model features one of Wyandotte’s most iconic and striking standard factory color schemes, showcasing a sleek black fuselage contrasted by a vibrant orange main wing. It comes equipped with its original, distinctively styled wooden wheels on a wire axle, which still retain remnants of their classic factory-yellow paint, alongside its original metal two-blade propeller and distinct square cabin windows stamped into the fuselage.
As a hallmark of the All Metal Products Company, this toy exemplifies the durable, "no-sharp-edges" design philosophy that made Wyandotte the world's largest manufacturer of toy guns and a powerhouse in pressed steel vehicles during the Great Depression. These chunky, highly stylized passenger planes were built to endure the rigorous play of children dreaming of the skies, making surviving examples with all their original components highly prized today.
This is an exceptional, uncleaned find for collectors of vintage aviation, pressed steel toys, or pre-war Americana. It displays beautifully with an honest, untouched original finish and an attractive, naturally aged patina that boasts a rugged charm only decades of genuine history can produce.
