Description

This spectacular antique Double Wedding Ring quilt is a true time capsule of 1930s American textile artistry, hand-pieced from what appears to be hundreds of feed sack and dress fabrics in every imaginable print including florals, calicoes, plaids, stripes, and novelty patterns. The rings are set against a crisp cream background with sage green connector squares at each intersection, and the characteristic scalloped edges are neatly bound in the same cream fabric, giving the quilt its classic undulating border all the way around. Dense hand quilting covers the entire surface including the open cream medallions, evidence of serious skill and patience that likely took months of dedicated work at a quilting frame. The quilt shows honest age-related toning particularly to the backing and some areas of the front, consistent with decades of storage, but the structure remains intact and the thousands of tiny pieced segments are holding strong, making this an exceptional display or collector piece from the golden age of American quiltmaking.

8. EXTENDED BIDDING: Bids placed near closing automatically extend the lot by 3 minutes until bidding stops.
