This green uranium glass biscuit or cracker jar is a classic example of Depression-era American pressed glass, produced during the late 1920s through the 1930s. The jar features a squared cylindrical form with rounded corners, vertically ribbed panel decoration, and an angled geometric design molded into the body. Under ultraviolet light, the glass displays the bright neon green fluorescence associated with uranium glass, confirming the presence of uranium oxide used in the glass formula to achieve the pale green coloration. Pieces such as this were both decorative and functional household storage containers commonly used for crackers, biscuits, cookies, or pantry goods.
While the jar is unmarked, the overall styling, pressed-glass construction, and geometric Art Deco influence are consistent with production by major American glass manufacturers of the Depression era, such as Anchor Hocking, Hazel-Atlas, or Federal Glass. The ribbed paneling and softly molded lines reflect the streamlined design trends popular during the period. The absence of its original lid suggests it was likely part of a kitchen canister or countertop storage line originally sold as an affordable decorative utility item during the Great Depression.
The jar measures approximately 4 inches by 4 inches and stands approximately 7 inches tall. The pale green coloration remains attractive both in natural light and under blacklight display, making it appealing to collectors of uranium glass, Depression glass, Art Deco kitchenware, and vintage American pressed glass. Light surface wear and minor manufacturing irregularities consistent with vintage molded glass production are present throughout.
