This gorgeous Lane Cedar Hope Chest from Altavista, Virginia is a true mid-century showstopper, featuring a richly figured walnut veneer exterior with a dramatic bookmatched diamond parquetry panel on the front, flanked by burl walnut side panels. The curved waterfall lid is an absolute stunner, and the scalloped front skirt adds a sweet decorative touch that screams late 1930s to early 1940s craftsmanship. Inside, the aromatic red cedar lining is clean and fragrant, complete with a felt-lined upper tray, chrome lid support hardware, the original Lane branded burn mark, the pressure-tested aroma-tightness seal stamped into the cedar floor, and incredibly the original blue Lane Cedar Hope Chest care pamphlet is still present. Condition notes for the honest buyer: the exterior shows surface scratches, a few small veneer chips and white marks on the lid and front corners, some finish wear on the back panel, and the base skirt has some roughness, but the bones and interior of this chest are remarkably solid and the cedar scent still delivers.
