Description
The Porter-Cable Model 556 Plate Joiner is a corded woodworking tool designed for cutting crescent-shaped slots used to join boards with compressed wood biscuits. Manufactured by Porter-Cable Corporation of Jackson, Tennessee, this model operates on 120V AC/DC power with a 5.0 amp motor rated at approximately 8,000 RPM. The plate joiner is commonly used in cabinetmaking, furniture construction, and panel glue-ups where accurate alignment and strong edge joints are required. The tool features a compact body with a horizontal motor configuration and front-mounted cutting assembly.
The joiner incorporates an adjustable fence system with a graduated angle scale that allows the operator to set the cutting angle for a variety of joinery applications. The aluminum fence assembly can be adjusted to accommodate different stock thicknesses and biscuit sizes, while the depth adjustment system provides precise slot depth control. The tool utilizes a spring-loaded plunge mechanism that drives the circular cutter into the workpiece during operation. The base plate and fence components are constructed from cast aluminum for rigidity and stability during cutting.
Included with the joiner are the original molded Porter-Cable carrying case, instruction manuals, and additional fence components as shown in the photographs. Based on the images provided, the tool appears to have been lightly used, with minor surface wear and light sawdust residue visible on the base and fence assembly. Buyers should review the photographs for details regarding condition and included components.
