You are referring to a 1944-D (Denver Mint) United States Jefferson Nickel graded MS 66 by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation).
The 1944-D Jefferson Nickel is part of the "War Nickels" series, which was minted from 1942 to 1945. During World War II, there was a shortage of nickel due to its use in the production of war materials. To address this, the U.S. Mint changed the composition of the five-cent coin from the usual 75% copper and 25% nickel to a 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese alloy. These wartime nickels are identifiable by the large mintmark (P, D, or S) above Monticello on the reverse of the coin.
NGC is a prominent third-party coin grading service that evaluates the condition of coins and assigns them a numerical grade. An MS 66 grade indicates that the coin is in Mint State (uncirculated) condition, with only a few minor imperfections, such as small contact marks or light hairlines. The coin should have an above-average eye appeal and strike.
In summary, a 1944-D United States Jefferson Nickel graded MS 66 by NGC is an uncirculated wartime alloy five-cent coin with only a few minor imperfections and above-average eye appeal.
