Description

This is a classic early 20th century salt-glazed stoneware water cooler crock, marked with a bold cobalt blue crown stamp encircling the number 2, indicating its two-gallon capacity. The crock features the iconic blue banded stripe decoration running around the barrel-shaped body, a fitted stoneware lid with concentric blue bull's-eye rings on top, and a period-appropriate chrome spigot mounted near the base for dispensing. As with any honest antique, this piece shows its age proudly: visible surface cracks running through the glaze, several chips and glaze loss patches on the body, and general crazing throughout the exterior. The unglazed base shows kiln marks and a stress crack, the interior is clean with a salt-glazed finish, and the whole package adds up to a genuinely charming piece of American country kitchen history that belongs on a farmhouse porch or a serious stoneware collector's shelf.
