Description

This is one seriously impressive chunk of solid brass, stamped right on the bottom with 'Solid Brass Made in India' in case you had any doubts about its credentials. The bulbous body is covered head-to-toe in intricate repousse and chased decoration, featuring arched medallion panels filled with floral rosettes, diamond lattice work, scallop borders, and a ribbed melon-shaped collar that separates the body from the wide flared rim. Two twisted rope-style brass ring handles are fixed at either side, adding both function and flair to this already show-stopping vessel. The piece carries a beautifully aged dark patina across the body with warmer brass tones at the rim and base, all in the Indo-Persian decorative tradition that made these jardiniere planters a beloved import staple from the mid-20th century onward.
