Description

This handsome antique barrel-form planter is built in true cooperage fashion, with vertical wood staves — likely oak — bound by two encircling brass hoops that still carry a warm golden patina. The bucket sits atop three splayed, turned wooden legs attached to the base with iron bracket hardware, giving it a rakish, slightly architectural stance that would make any Victorian parlor proud. The interior reveals a solid circular wood floor and beautifully aged stave construction. At the same time, the exterior shows honest wear including surface scratches and minor splits consistent with a piece that has genuinely lived. A rare and characterful find for the serious collector or decorator who appreciates form with a working-class past.
