This vintage stoneware advertising jug was produced for the Midwest Old Settlers & Threshers Association of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and originally contained 22 ounces of “Pure Country” sorghum syrup. The front paper label features a detailed illustration of a horse-powered sorghum mill and reads “Ready to use as a syrup on pancakes, waffles, French toast or hot biscuits,” along with “Old Settlers & Threshers Association Inc.” and “NE WT. 22 OZ.” The jug retains its original label with visible age toning and staining consistent with storage and handling.
The jug is formed in a traditional beehive or whiskey jug shape with a two-tone brown and tan glazed finish. It features an applied handle and a cork stopper at the top. This type of jug was commonly sold as a commemorative souvenir during the annual Midwest Old Threshers Reunion, reflecting regional agricultural heritage and traditional sorghum production methods.
Based on the association’s founding in 1950 and comparable examples, this piece is consistent with mid-to-late 20th century production, most often seen from the 1960s–1970s. The jug measures approximately 5 inches tall and 3 inches at the base, identifying it as a miniature or sample-size container intended for individual sale or keepsake display.
