Step aside, modern furniture -- these two mahogany shield-back armchairs mean serious business. Crafted in the Hepplewhite style, each chair boasts a beautifully carved fan-splat back with a central rosette medallion, sweeping open arms, tapered spade-foot legs, and a serpentine front seat rail adorned with subtle stringing inlay. The upholstered drop-in seats are covered in a lush gold and olive damask brocade fabric that practically demands you sit down and feel important. Condition is consistent with age and honest use -- the frames show surface scratches, some finish wear on the arm supports and stiles, a repaired split on one crest rail (previously glued), a loose arm joint with remnant adhesive visible, and an old cut nail protruding from one seat rail -- all the hallmarks of a piece that has actually lived, and all very addressable with a competent restoration.

8. EXTENDED BIDDING: Bids placed near closing automatically extend the lot by 3 minutes until bidding stops.
