This is a showstopper straight out of the Jazz Age -- a General Motors Radio Corporation floor-standing console radio in a breathtaking ornately carved walnut and burl wood cabinet, standing approximately 41 inches tall and measuring roughly 21 inches wide by 14 inches deep. The front panel dazzles with intricate acanthus leaf carvings along the upper frieze, stunning burl wood veneer center panel, a Gothic arch speaker grille with pierced fretwork that would make a cathedral jealous, and the original brass-framed GM tuning dial with Local/Distance toggle switch flanked by three handsome wooden control knobs. The interior chassis carries the original General Motors Radio Corp label reading volts 110, cycles 50-60, and the back reveals the full complement of cylindrical tube shields, original field-coil speaker, and period wiring that make vintage radio collectors absolutely weak in the knees. The elegantly turned and carved baluster legs with pad feet complete a cabinet that is frankly too gorgeous to hide in a corner -- though someone clearly tried.
