Description

Privately issued in 1979 for James Harrison Simrall by the Old Berkshire Hunt, this stunning mahogany bracket-style mantel clock is a one-of-a-kind collector's dream. The engraved brass dial features Roman numerals, ornate black spade hands, twin winding arbors, and a beautifully etched foxhound scene in the arch, flanked by corner spandrel decorations and a script verse reading 'In seventeen hundred and sixty and six, The beginning of March for our hunt we did fix, At five in the morning by most of the clocks, We rode from Brightwoulton to try for a fox.' The base panel showcases a vibrant hand-colored fox hunting scene with riders in red coats, hounds in full cry, and a countryside backdrop, all behind glass. The movement is a Franz Hermle triple-rod chime mechanism, the back door reveals a brass plate movement in excellent condition, the clock measures approximately 20 inches tall and 12 inches wide, and comes complete with its original winding key.

8. EXTENDED BIDDING: Bids placed near closing automatically extend the lot by 3 minutes until bidding stops.
