First up is a beautifully matted color photograph of an ornate arched window with elaborate decorative surround and wrought iron balcony rail below, mounted in a warm walnut-tone wood frame with elegant beaded edge detail and professionally framed by The Framing Express (Since 1975). The image measures approximately 22 inches wide in the frame and captures what appears to be a historic New Orleans or Southern Gothic architectural detail with gorgeous aged patina tones. The mat shows some foxing and age spotting but the photo itself is striking, and the quality wood frame with its tight mitered corners remains in very solid shape. A lovely piece for lovers of architectural photography or vintage Southern charm.
The second piece is a rare original 1972 event poster from Christ Church Cathedral Episcopal in Louisville, Kentucky, promoting the Sesquicentennial Year Celebration performance of Seeds of Contemplation, an oratorio with music by Don Murray and text by the legendary Thomas Merton, featuring the Bellarmine College Singers and a 40-piece symphony. Conductor Gus Coin led the free public performance on Sunday, November 5, 1972, at 421 S. 2nd Street, with instrumental soloists including Jamey Aebersold, Herbert Hale, and J. Don Shumate. Framed by Art Originals of Louisville and measuring approximately 24 inches tall, this sepia-toned poster with its evocative silhouette illustration shows honest age and staining but remains completely legible and is an extraordinary piece of Louisville cultural and religious history.
