Description
Smith & Wesson Model 40 .38 Special 2" Blued Revolver w/ Box
Up for auction is a classic Smith & Wesson Model 40 “Centennial” chambered in .38 Special, featuring a compact 2-inch barrel and desirable blued finish, complete with its original box. Introduced in 1952 as part of Smith & Wesson’s Centennial line, this model is well known for its fully enclosed (internal) hammer design, making it a true double-action-only revolver ideal for concealed carry.
Built on the compact J-frame, the Model 40 offers a streamlined, snag-free profile along with a unique grip safety, a distinguishing feature not commonly found on most revolvers. Its simple, rugged design and proven reliability have made it a long-standing favorite among collectors and those seeking a classic defensive revolver.

Condition:
Overall condition appears very good with light handling wear consistent with normal use. Bluing may show minor edge wear or light surface marks. Bore should be inspected for brightness and rifling. Action should be checked for proper function and smooth trigger pull. Box shows typical storage wear.
Additional Notes:
The Model 40 is a highly collectible example of Smith & Wesson’s early concealed-carry revolver designs. Its “hammerless” profile, grip safety, and historical significance make it especially appealing to collectors of classic American revolvers.
