Description
The centerpiece of this lot is a Davis Cabinet Company 'Old World' solid wood oval dining table, stock number 1257, manufactured in Nashville, Tennessee 37206 by the legendary Hetty Kelly Cabinet Company division. The table features dual pedestal bases with elegantly turned columns and graceful cabriole legs with pad feet, a brass table leaf locking mechanism, and two extension leaves -- making it expandable for large gatherings. The underside retains its original paper label, assembly instructions, and stamped serial number 5-74490-3, confirming authenticity and provenance. Condition is good for its age with normal surface wear and minor scratches to the tabletop as visible in photos.
The set includes eight French Provincial style cane-back dining chairs, comprising armchairs and side chairs, all featuring carved walnut-tone hardwood frames with shapely cabriole legs and original striped cream upholstered seat cushions. The cane panels on the chair backs are largely intact with typical age-related patina. Chair seat cushions show significant age-related soiling, staining, and discoloration throughout, and at least one cushion shows torn fabric with exposed foam at the corner. Reupholstering all seats would be a straightforward and rewarding refresh for this otherwise structurally sound set.
