Description

Before electric mixers stole the show, this cast iron gear-driven butter churn was the hardest-working contraption on the farm. The clear glass jar, approximately 6-7 inches wide at the base, houses a set of original wooden dasher paddles still attached to the iron drive shaft, and there is even a yellow residue clinging to those paddles that suggests this churn lived a full and productive dairy life. The cast iron lid mechanism features a large toothed drive gear meshing with a smaller pinion gear, all driven by a side-mounted crank with a turned wooden handle, and a perforated strainer cup is built right into the lid for draining off the buttermilk. The glass jar shows surface scratches and light crazing consistent with heavy use and honest age, the iron is uniformly rusty and crusty, and the whole assembly stands approximately 14 inches tall with the crank mechanism in place, making this a genuine working antique rather than a decorator reproduction.

6. BUYER’S PREMIUM & TAX: A 12% Buyer’s Premium and applicable sales tax will be added to all purchases.

8. EXTENDED BIDDING: Bids placed near closing automatically extend the lot by 3 minutes until bidding stops.
