This is a genuine Pelouze Manufacturing Co. balance scale, made in Evanston, Illinois, USA, and it means serious business. The dual-pan beam scale features a dual-register sliding indicator marked in both Grains (up to 510) and Grammes (up to 3), giving it a wonderfully nerdy scientific pedigree. The cast aluminum body shows honest age-appropriate patina and surface rust, while the original brass counterweights rest neatly in their fitted base tray alongside one empty slot — so nearly the full set is present and accounted for. Both aluminum pans are included and stamped LEFT and RIGHT on their undersides for proper placement, and the whole ensemble stores in its original painted black box marked SCALES in chalk lettering, making this one of the most complete vintage apothecary or postal scale sets you are likely to find at auction.
