Here is a complete set of four solid cherry dining side chairs made by the legendary Consider H. Willett furniture company of Louisville, Kentucky, identified by the original manufacturer labels reading Style No. 8163 cherry, Cover No. H 8092, line name Old Colony City, Order No. 339. Each chair features a gracefully curved saber-leg back with a boldly carved barley-twist top rail flanked by turned finials, a shaped lower splat centered with a carved bull's-eye rosette medallion, and four barley-twist front legs ending in turned bun feet connected by a plain H-stretcher. The drop-in upholstered seats are dressed in a pink and mauve ikat-stripe flame-stitch fabric that is period-appropriate and shows light use consistent with age. Willett furniture, a prized American maker active from the early twentieth century through the mid-1980s, is highly sought by collectors of quality American traditional furniture, and a set of four in cherry is an unusually generous find.
