Description
Colt 1903 “Hammerless” .380 Auto Pistol
Up for auction is a highly collectible Colt Model 1903 “Pocket Hammerless” semi-automatic pistol chambered in .380 ACP. Designed by legendary firearms inventor John Browning, this iconic pistol was produced by Colt from the early 1900s through the end of World War II and remains one of the most recognizable early semi-automatic handguns ever made.
Despite its name, the “hammerless” design actually features a concealed internal hammer, allowing for a smooth, snag-free draw—one of the reasons it became so popular for concealed carry during its era. The .380 caliber variant (commonly referred to as the Model 1908) is nearly identical to the earlier .32 ACP version but offers increased stopping power in a similarly compact platform.
This pistol operates on a simple blowback, single-action design and includes both a manual thumb safety and grip safety, reflecting classic early 20th-century firearm engineering. Its slim profile, all-steel construction, and historic appeal have made it a favorite among collectors for generations.

Additional Notes:
The Colt 1903/1908 series is widely regarded as one of the most successful early semi-automatic pistol designs, with hundreds of thousands produced over its long production run. It was favored by civilians, law enforcement, and even military officers, adding to its strong historical and collector appeal.
