This is the bear that started it all -- a wonderfully chunky die-cut pressed cardboard figure of Smokey the Bear wearing his signature ranger hat, with two cartoon arrows playfully stuck in his belly. Labeled on the back as No. 246 'Smokey' from the Cowboy and Indian Pin-Ups line, this piece was manufactured by The Dolly Toy Co. of Tipp City, Ohio, a beloved mid-century producer of colorful nursery wall decorations. The piece shows honest age-appropriate wear including small nail holes on the reverse but retains vivid, eye-popping color on the front. A genuine slice of postwar American childhood that any Smokey Bear or advertising collectible enthusiast would be thrilled to add to their collection. This tall, slim die-cut totem pole figure is a showstopper of mid-century cartoon illustration, stacked high with boldly colored, exaggerated faces rendered in rich reds, blues, and yellows on pressed cardboard. Also part of The Dolly Toy Co.'s Cowboy and Indian Pin-Ups series No. 246 Smokey set from Tipp City, Ohio, this piece features a small yellow bird perched at the very top. The top section shows some surface separation and tape repair, adding to its well-loved vintage character, while the overall graphic integrity remains striking and display-worthy. A rare companion piece that rounds out a complete western-themed nursery set from the golden age of American novelty decor. Rounding out this fantastic trio is a vivid die-cut cardboard figure of a cartoon Native American chief seated cross-legged, beating a drum with a painted drumstick, and crowned with an enormous and dramatically feathered war bonnet rendered in navy, red, yellow, and white. Also bearing the Dolly Toy Co. Cowboy and Indian Pin-Ups No. 246 Smokey designation on the reverse, this piece is the most graphically complex of the set and retains exceptional color saturation with a hanging hole intact at the top. The caricature style is squarely of its era -- bold, breezy, and unapologetically mid-century -- making it a fascinating artifact of postwar American pop culture and children's decor history.
