Description

This is a genuine Royal Standard flatbed typewriter, one of the earliest desktop models produced by the Royal Typewriter Company, dating to approximately the 1910s-1920s based on its open frame design, twin ribbon spool towers, and distinctive two-color segment architecture. The machine features a full QWERTY keyboard with glass-topped round keys, Shift Lock, Back Spacer, Tabular Key, and Margin Release, all still intact and legible, along with a brass paper guide bar and a ruler-marked platen assembly with original knobs. Condition is as found and gloriously unrestored - heavy patina, surface rust, accumulated grime in the type basket, and yellowed debris around the typebars tell the story of a long working life, but all major components appear present including both ribbon spool housings, the carriage, and the full complement of typebars with visible typeface stamps. This is a serious display piece or a restoration project for the dedicated collector - either way, it is the kind of machine that makes an entire room feel more important just by sitting in it.
