This early 19th-century aquatint depicts the 1799 naval engagement “Capture of La Forte,” painted by J. Whitcombe and engraved by I. Sutherland. Published July 1, 1816 for J. Jenkins’s Naval Achievements, it features detailed period hand-coloring and retains its original presentation, documented by a Weil Bros. Rare Prints label on the reverse noting it as an original color aquatint. The artwork shows excellent historical detail, characteristic of British naval prints of the era, including the dramatic exchange between British and French ships.
