This finely crafted sterling silver heart-shaped dish by Gorham features elaborate repoussé scrollwork and beautifully pierced (reticulated) detailing surrounding a smooth central heart medallion. The dish is marked with Gorham’s traditional hallmarks—the lion, anchor, and “G”—along with “STERLING” and the pattern number 966, confirming its authenticity. It measures 4.5 inches high Across and 5 inches long, and weighs 75 grams.
Pattern 966 corresponds to an early Gorham hollowware design associated with the Chantilly-era decorative style, produced around the turn of the century. Based on Gorham production records and comparable documented examples, this piece dates to approximately 1900–1920, a period known for highly detailed American silverwork and intricate hand-pierced ornamentation. The dish’s ornate floral and scroll motif is characteristic of Gorham’s early 20th-century luxury table pieces.
This elegant sterling dish would have originally been used for candies, nuts, or small serving purposes, and it remains a collectible example of early Gorham craftsmanship. Its delicate reticulated design and classic heart form make it a standout display piece as well as a desirable addition to an American sterling silver collection.
